- 18:10 ET Monday After Hours : prices levels vs. 4 pm ET: Tonight's trade has found some buying interest following today's disappointing session for the bulls. After moving modestly higher, the major indices surrendered their gains in the last hour of trading and finished moderately lower. Buyers remained reluctant with Friday's sweeping gains still fresh in their minds. Presently, the S&P futures, at 1140, are 1 point above fair value, and the Nasdaq 100 futures, at 1496, are 4 points above fair value. Tonight's news has not come from the most influential of companies, but has included a number of earnings revisions. The below table lists tonight's most notable announcements, and the reasons behind the stock's resulting move.
- 15:24 ET Bond Market Summary:
Treasuries spent the day puttering about; the week's event risk kept a lid on things and allowed the market to finally cop a bit of a bid into the session close. The wholesale inventories number has never offered much in the way of market activity, and today was no exception. The non-event that was the G7 meeting also added no spice to a well-behaved market. Treasury Secretary Snow had a few remarks mid-day, but they consisted of little more than the company line on keeping the dollar strong. The day's lack of action will likely be repeated tomorrow, with no economic data due out and no Federal Reserve or Treasury spokes-folks on the schedule. The sole ray of light is the potential of currency rowdiness causing some spillover action, but that is not a promise. One item of interest: the Eurex US began trading today and will go head to head with the CBOT on treasury futures trading. The ten-years are currently +04/32nds yielding 4.060%; twos are unchanged yielding 1.737%; threes are +01/32nds yielding 2.138%; fives are +04/32nds yielding 3.054%; thirties are +04/32nds yielding 4.909%. - 14:53 ET Oracle comments on PeopleSoft Board's rejection of offer (ORCL) 13.32 -0.10:
Update -- "Given PeopleSoft's uncertain future as a stand-alone company and the fact that, for the first quarter, PeopleSoft guided analysts below the consensus estimates, Oracle believes that its offer is full and generous... Since PeopleSoft's current directors persist in their refusal even to discuss the offer with Oracle, PeopleSoft stockholders can act in their own best interests by tendering their shares and voting to elect the slate of five independent directors to the PeopleSoft board..." - 12:42 ET High Short Interest Point Gainers :
