Cijfers nog altijd goed, onrust in M-O zorgt voor wat hoogtevrees.

De poging om door te stoten gisteren lukt nog niet, de opgebouwde winst verdampte snel zodat de indices mogelijk steunpunten moeten gaan opzoeken. Er was in Irak nogal wat vuurwerk wat de markt even op adem deed komen.


Woensdag 28 april:

Vandaag worden de cijfers verwacht van Comcast (CMCSA), Bristol Myers (BMY), JDS Uniphase (JDSU), Qlogic (QLGC), Symantec (SYMC), ConocoPhillips (COP). Shareholder meetings komen er ook vandaag, o.a. bij Adobe Systems (ADBE), General Electric (GE), en Verizon (VZ).

  • 18:28 ET Tuesday After Hours : prices levels vs. 4 pm ET: Tepid after hours market on the heels of today's lackluster regular session - where the S&P futures, at 1137, are flat with fair value, and the Nasdaq 100 futures, at 1483, are 2 points above fair value. Reports out of most technology companies have been better than expected, although their outlooks have not all been as upbeat.
  • Maxim Integrated (MXIM) +1% : Chip maker reports Q3 (Mar) EPS that rose 35% to $0.31 (consensus of $0.31) and revenues that increased 29% to $370.0 mln (consensus of $369.8 mln); On its conference call, Maxim forecasts Q4 (June) EPS and sales of $0.36 and $420 mln, respectively - both ahead of Street estimates; MXIM has declined 8% year-to-date
  • Mc Donalds (MCD) +3%: After raising EPS estimates to $0.40 on Apr 13, fast food giant matches the Reuters Research estimate of $0.40 in its Q1 (Mar) report; Comparable store sales increased 9.4% despite more difficult comparisons; McDonald's recently announced the appointment of COO Charlie Bell to the CEO post following the untimely death of Jim Cantalupo on Apr 19
  • RF Micro Device (RFMD) -10%: Wireless chipmaker turns in a roughly in line Q4 (Mar) report, but guides lower for Q1 (June) - putting EPS at $0.03-0.04 versus the consensus estimate of $0.05; Stock gets hit hard off this, and the weaker than expected Q4 gross margin performance; Metric came in at 37.3% versus 39% for firms like Loop Capital; Competitor SWKS has traded lower by 2%
  • UT Starcom (UTSI) -3%: Network gear maker handily surpasses Wall Street expectations in its Q1 (Mar) report, but issues a mixed outlook for Q2 (June); Says EPS should be $0.40 (consensus of $0.42) on sales of $650-660 mln (consensus of $620 mln); Adds that its preliminary FY05 (Dec) revenue estimate is $3.5 bln (consensus of $3.04 bln); UTSI still trades lower on the Q2 earnings warning
  • Zoran (ZRAN) -8% : Small-cap semiconductor name beats in its Q1 (Mar) report, but guides Q2 (June) EPS to the low-end of analyst estimates; Shares have been trading below their 50 and 200-day simple moving averages.
