BEFORE THE BELL
U.S. stock index futures gained as technology shares rebounded, following one of Wall Street’s worst sell-off of the year in the previous session driven by rising Treasury yields. European stocks were up. Asian equities ended lower on worries about China’s economic growth. The dollar index was little changed amid arguments over the U.S. debt ceiling that threatened to plunge the government into a shutdown. Oil prices dropped after U.S. crude inventories unexpectedly rose. Gold was in the positive territory.

• Micron Technology Inc: The company forecast current-quarter revenue below analysts' expectations and warned that shipments for its memory chips were set to dip in the near term as its customers making personal computers face shortages of other parts. Micron, one of the world's biggest memory chip suppliers, said it expects shipments of both chips to sequentially decline in the near term. "Some PC customers are adjusting their memory and storage purchases due to shortages of non-memory components that are needed to complete PC bills," Chief Executive Officer Sanjay Mehrotra told analysts. Micron forecast current-quarter revenue of $7.65 billion, plus or minus $200 million, while analysts on average expected $8.57 billion.
Deals Of The Day
Akamai Technologies Inc: The company will acquire Israel-based Guardicore for about $600 million, it said, to beef up its cloud security offerings and help businesses combat ransomware attacks. The acquisition comes at a time when more businesses are turning to the cloud to run their operations and face frequent cyberattacks. Guardicore specializes in software that helps to limit user access to only those applications that are authorized to communicate with each other. "Given the recent surge in ransomware attacks and increasingly stringent compliance regulations, investing in technologies to reduce the spread of malware has become mission critical," said Tom Leighton, chief executive officer and co-founder of Akamai.

• AbbVie Inc: The company said on Tuesday the U.S. health regulator approved its once-daily oral medicine for preventive treatment of migraine in adults, adding a third drug to the drugmaker's arsenal of therapies for severe headaches. The drug, Qulipta, which AbbVie will launch in early October, will enter a crowded market for migraine prevention drugs such as Eli Lilly's Emgality, Amgen's Aimovig and Biohaven's Nurtec ODT.
• Alphabet Inc: Russia threatened to block YouTube after Russian state-backed broadcaster RT's German-language channels were deleted a day earlier and said it was weighing possible retaliation against the German media. YouTube said on Tuesday that RT's channels had breached its COVID misinformation policy, a move Russia's Foreign Ministry described as "unprecedented information aggression" in a statement late on Wednesday. The ministry said Russian authorities had been approached with "a proposal to develop and take retaliatory measures against the YouTube hosting service and the German media."
• Amazon.com Inc & Microsoft Corp: The company said on Tuesday it will allow Epic Games, Amazon.com and other firms to integrate their app stores into the technology giant's marketplace, giving more options to third-party developers. The Redmond, Washington-based company also said it would not take a cut from app developers' revenue, when the apps manage their own in-app payment systems. "Microsoft is again leading the industry forward with Windows, now an open platform with an open store," Epic Games Chief Executive Officer Tim Sweeney tweeted. Qulipta belongs to a class of drugs called calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonists, also called "gepants", which act by blocking a pathway that seemingly plays a role in migraine activation.
• AstraZeneca PLC: The company will take full control of Caelum Biosciences in a deal worth up to $500 million, the drugmaker said, sharpening its focus on rare-disease drugs following its purchase of Alexion Pharmaceuticals. The deal gives AstraZeneca access to another potentially lucrative rare disease drug that is undergoing late-stage trials and has a "fast track" status for regulatory review in the United States. New Jersey-based Caelum will become part of AstraZeneca's Alexion division, the rare diseases specialist it bought for $39 billion earlier this year. Alexion will pay $150 million to buy the remaining stake it does not already own in Caelum and make future payments of up to $350 million, depending on milestones achieved. Alexion took a minority stake in Caelum in 2019.
• AT&T Inc & Facebook Inc: CNN said it is preventing Australians from accessing its Facebook pages after a court ruled that publishers can be liable for defamation in public comment sections and the social media firm refused to help it disable comments in the country. The move makes CNN, which is owned by AT&T, the first major news organisation to pull its Facebook presence in Australia since the country's highest court ruled this month that publishers were legally responsible for comments posted below articles - even if the articles themselves were not defamatory.
• Boeing Inc: Boeing's 737 MAX test flight for China's aviation regulator last month was successful and the planemaker hopes a two-year grounding will be lifted this year, the head of Boeing's China business said. "It went off without a hitch," Boeing China President Sherry Carbary said of the test flight, speaking on the sidelines of Airshow China, the country's biggest air show.
• Lucid Group Inc: U.S. startup Lucid said on Tuesday it will start delivering luxury electric sedans with a Tesla-beating driving range in late October, posing a major challenge to the market leader whose sales of premium models have stagnated. The California-based Lucid began production of its long-delayed Lucid Air cars at its Arizona factory on Tuesday, and said it aims to ramp plant's capacity up to 90,000 vehicles per annum in the next two years. The top-end Lucid Air Dream Edition will be available in late October, followed by less expensive models: Grand Touring, Touring and Air Pure. The company is on track to meet its production targets for 2022 and 2023 and is pushing to achieve this year's goal of 577 vehicles, its chief executive said.
• Moderna Inc: The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is leaning toward authorizing half-dose booster shots of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. The FDA had been seeking information about the effectiveness of a full third dose of the Moderna vaccine, but is now ready to move forward and consider the half-dose booster Moderna has proposed, the report said. Moderna on Sept. 1 submitted its application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration seeking authorization for a booster shot.
• Netflix Inc: The company has bought video game creator Night School Studio and rolled out five mobile gaming titles in select European markets, the company said on Tuesday, as it looks to diversify revenue sources amid intensifying competition in the streaming space. Night School Studio, the company's first gaming studio purchase, is best known for its debut game, "Oxenfree", a supernatural teen thriller with an eerie soundtrack. "Like our shows and films, these games will all be included as part of your Netflix membership — all with no ads and no in-app purchases," the company said.
• Tesla Inc: Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk said on Tuesday U.S. President Joe Biden's administration was not the friendliest and its electric vehicle policy appeared to be controlled by labor unions. Speaking at a tech conference in California, Musk was critical of a White House summit on electric vehicles in August to which automakers other than Tesla were invited. "(They) didn't mention Tesla once and praised GM and Ford for leading the EV revolution. Does that sound maybe a little biased?," Musk said during a panel discussion at the Code Conference in Beverly Hills. "Not the friendliest administration, seems to be controlled by unions," he added.
• Wells Fargo & Co: The bank on Tuesday delayed its return-to-office plans for the second time this month, saying it will now start bringing back employees in January next year, according to a memo seen by Reuters. The bank said its operations and contact center employees will start returning to office over several weeks beginning Jan. 10. They will be followed by employees in business support and enterprise functions, who will return during the first quarter next year.
• United Airlines Holding Inc: The airline said on Tuesday nearly 600 U.S.-based employees faced termination after failing to comply with the carrier's vaccination policy. The carrier said it would start on Tuesday the process of firing 593 employees who decided not to get vaccinated. "This was an incredibly difficult decision but keeping our team safe has always been our first priority," Chief Executive Scott Kirby and President Brett Hart told employees in a memo. The workers can save their jobs if they get vaccinated before their formal termination meetings, the company officials said.

• HP Inc: JPMorgan cuts rating to neutral from overweight to reflect a more subdued moderation in PC industry volumes from the 2020/2021 record volumes.
• Micron Technology Inc: Cowen and Company cuts target price to $80 from $90, saying the company’s customers – most notably PC OEMs – have been curtailing memory orders as shortages of other components have resulted in fewer complete “kits” and higher inventory.
• Realogy Holdings Corp: Evercore ISI cuts target price to $26 from $28 after the company’s recent deleveraging announcement, wherein it repaid $435 million in outstanding borrowings under its term loan facilities using cash on hand.
• Wingstop Inc: Piper Sandler raises target price to $205 from $184 based on higher same-store sales assumptions.

Goedemorgen,
